NOTES:
All music is a reflection of the time in which it was written. This is true
of not only baroque and romantic music, but also minimalist music, which
emerged in the United States in the last third of the 20th century. Its
inexorably pounding rhythm depicts the merciless rush of our modern age,
while its endlessly wallowing harmony responds to the need to escape reality
via trance-like states.
This recording of string quartets by two typical exponents of minimalism is intended to help a style of music which was more than just a passing fad find its rightful place in the history of music. We hope that minimalist music will come to be held in the same high regard as the music of other epochs. Finally, as far as our quartet is concerned, this CD documents a deliqhtful time full of enthusiasm spent together.
